Hungarian museum among the best in the world!!! – The Times
The Museum of Fine Arts’ exhibition – presenting the Renoir painting bought recently – is listed among the most spectacular exhibitions of this summer, according to The Times. The online edition of the prestigious British journal describes that the reclining female nude painting from 1903 is the most valuable component from the last century of the Budapest museum.
Within the framework of the world’s museum programmes of the summer, 25 exhibitions are highlighted by The Times, in which the exhibition of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest is also listed, presenting the recently purchased Renoir masterpiece, the reclining female nude painting. The French impressionist master’s work is listed among such art exhibitions as the New York Metropolitan, the Louvre in Paris, the Pompidou, the Florence Uffizi, and the Prado in Madrid.
The prestigious British newspaper’s online article – “Wish you were here: 25 art shows to see around the world this summer” – highlights that the Renoir painting from 1903 is the most valuable purchase of the Museum of Fine Arts over the last hundred years.
As pestbuda.hu describes, the almost life-size nude painting was bought for $12.3 million ~ 3,5 billion HUF. The painting could already be viewed by the Hungarian audience 110 years ago, in 1907, at the National Salon exhibition; however, the museum was unable to purchase the work. Thanks to the support of the government, Renoir’s masterpiece is back in Budapest, available for exhibition visitors until the 20th August.
A masterpiece can be seen among the former Renoir painting collection preserved by the Museum of Fine Arts, such as Young women busts, and some pieces of 20th-century modern French art – Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, Eugène Boudin, Maurice Denis, Charles-François Daubigny, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes’s paintings.
